Nordic Competes In Freestyle At NCAA Championships

Charlotte Ogden led the way with an 11th place finish.
The Middlebury nordic ski team competed in the freestyle events on day two of the NCAA Championships. Combined with Wednesday's alpine scores, the Panthers sit in ninth place with 103 points out of 22 teams. Colorado leads the way with 279.5 points, while Utah is right behind with 263 points and Denver rounds out the top-three teams (230.5 points).
 
The nordic squad is idle on Friday, returning to the trails on Saturday for the 20K classic mass starts. 
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Willson Moore was the first Panther out of the gates on Thursday morning, wearing bib #8. Finishing in 18th place out of 40 racers, Moore covered the 10K freestyle course in 24:21.9. 
  • Breaking into the top-25 spots was Logan Moore, clocking in at 24:37.4 which was good for 24th place.
  • The final skier for Middlebury was Jack Christner, finishing in 35th (25:49.5). 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • On the women's side, Charlotte Ogden led the way in the 5K freestyle. She finished in 11th place out of 39 athletes, clocking in at 13:30.9.
  • Shea Brams cracked the top 25, placing 19th with a time of 13:52.5 in her NCAA debut.
  • Rounding out the scorers for the Panthers was Quincy Massey-Bierman in 31st place (14:12.5).
NOTES
  • W. Moore and Ogden's finishes were the highest in their career in any discipline at the NCAA Championships. 
  • The women's team finished sixth overall in the event with 32 points.
  • Alaska Fairbanks won the men's competition (84 points), while Utah claimed the women's crown (88 points). 
The alpine team wraps up competition on Friday with the slalom at Whiteface Mountain. The men's first run is at 9:00 a.m., followed by the women at 10:00 a.m.
