Panther Men Begin Outdoor Season With Several Personal Best Performances

Daryl Edwards recorded a pair of personal-best times.
The Middlebury men's outdoor track and field team recorded several top-10 finishes and 18 personal best performances on opening day of the outdoor season. The Panthers competed at the Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational in California during spring break, a meet featuring athletes from all NCAA divisions. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Max Cluss finished in sixth place in the 1,500-meter (3:55.43), while Zach Utz was one spot behind in seventh (3:56.26).
  • In the pole vault, Joel Kofman tied for sixth with a height of 4.34m. 
  • Jefferson Hill finished in seventh in the 110 hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.53.
  • In the 100 dash, Aidan Castanon placed seventh, stopping the clock in 10.83 seconds.
  • Xander Swann finished in eighth in the 400 hurdles (56.34), while Will Lavey was 10th with a collegiate-best time of 57.87.
  • In the hammer throw, Dave Filias heaved the implement 45.41m, good for ninth place. 
  • Recording a 13-second personal best time was Alec Gironda, clocking in at 14:40.85 in the 5,000.
  • The 4x400 relay quartet (Cluss, Isaiah Izzo Lizardi, Daryl Edwards and Lachlan Bishop) placed seventh with a time of 3:29.91.
  • Logan Cosgrove tallied a pair of personal best performances. He finished in 13th place in the shot put, with a toss of 13.09m, while placing 18th in the discus (37.75m). 
NOTES  
The Panthers will remain in California and compete at the Mangrum Invitational hosted by San Marcos on Friday and the PLNU Collegiate Open on Saturday.
