Men’s Lacrosse Edges Connecticut College In NESCAC Road Contest

The Middlebury men's lacrosse team scored four of Saturday's first five goals and held off a late comeback bid by Connecticut College for a hard-fought10-9 NESCAC road victory. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers tallied four of the game's first five goals to race out to a 4-1 advantage with 4:20 left in the initial quarter. The run was capped on a score following a nifty move from Will Zink.
  • Camel Jared Rainville made it a 4-2 contest, scoring on a rebound from just outside the crease with 2:28 left.
  • Middlebury grabbed its largest lead of the contest at 6-2 with 10:38 remaining in the second quarter following goals from Logan White and the third tally by Russell Thorndike.
  • The Camels rattled off four-straight goals over the next 9:15 of action, including a pair from Jack Tenzer, to knot the contest at 6-6.
  • The Panthers won the ensuing faceoff and regained the lead for good  when William Ryan scored from eight yards out with 19 seconds left to give Middlebury a one goal lead (7-6) heading into halftime.
  • Each team scored twice in the third quarter, including a player-up goal by Patrick Jamin who tucked a shot just under the crossbar, for a 9-8 Panther edge headed to the fourth quarter.
  • In the low-scoring final frame, Middlebury's Gray Thomas ripped a left-handed shot from eight yards that found space in the lower-left corner with 9:34 left for a 10-8 lead, while Jared Rainville scored with 1:28 left to make it 10-9.
  • With 1:20 showing on the clock, Connecticut College had a player-up opportunity following a Middlebury penalty and the Panthers killed it off.
  • The Camels gained possession and called timeout with 36.3 seconds left but the Middlebury defense didn't allow the hosts to get a shot off for the final 10-9 victory.
NOTES
  • Thorndike had a hat trick to go along with two assists for the Panther offense.
  • Luke Simpson scooped up a game-best seven ground balls, while William Munroe was 11-16 at the faceoff dot.
  • The Panthers and the Camels have played 36 times in history with Middlebury owning a 30-6 advantage and claiming a victory in four-straight contests.
