Middlebury Finishes Second At SMC Carnival

Sofia Yubero finished in fifth place.
The Middlebury alpine and nordic ski teams finished in second place out of 14 teams at the Saint Michael's Carnival. The University of Vermont ran away with the title with 1,034 points, followed by the Panthers (768 points) and Dartmouth (707 points).

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Alexandra Cossette and Sofia Yubero led the women's alpine squad to a runner-up finish on Saturday. Cossette was just off the podium in fourth place with a two-run time of 1:21.66, while Yubero was one spot back with a combined clocking of 1:21.83.
  • Rounding out the scorers was Emma Hall in 11th place (1:22.51), while Mika-Anne Reha was right behind in 12th (1:22.54).
  • On the men's side, Bradshaw Underhill was the first Panther, completing his two strips down the mountain in 1:19.41 which was good for 13th place.
  • Axel Bailey (27th) and Will Trudeau (28th) combined for two-run times of 1:20.24 and 1:21.10, respectively.
 NOTES
  • The nordic team competed January 20 and 21, but due to weather conditions, the alpine events were postponed until this weekend. The giant slalom was canceled on Friday because of unprecedented frigid cold temperatures, therefore the slalom points from Saturday were doubled to achieve the final carnival total scores.
  • Middlebury finished in the top-three spots in five of the six disciplines, highlighted by the men's nordic squad winning the sprint event.
  • Cossette's finish was the best so far this season.
The teams are back in action next weekend at the Harvard Carnival.
