Panthers Sit In Fourth Place After Day One Of EISA Championship

Quincy Massey-Bierman finished in 21st place during Friday's 5K freestyle.
The Middlebury ski teams sit in fourth place following the first day of the EISA Championships in Lake Placid, New York. The women's alpine squad led the Panthers on day one, earning a third-place finish in the giant slalom (GS) with 90 points. The University of Vermont leads the way with 466 points, one point better than Dartmouth's 465, while the University of New Hampshire is third with 368 points and Middlebury is fourth at 337 points. The two-day event is being hosted by St. Lawrence University.
 
ALPINE HIGHLIGHTS
  • In her first race of the season for Middlebury, Ali Nullmeyer finished in sixth place during the GS. Nullmeyer completed her two trips down the mountain with a time of 2:13.69, just 1.74 seconds behind the winner.
  • The other Panther scorers also placed in the top 20. Sofia Yubero skied to ninth place with a two-run time of 2:15.29, while Mika-Anne Reha was 19th (2:16.22). 
  • On the men's side, the Panthers posted 76 points to finish fifth. 
  • Axel Bailey led the way with a 12th-place showing, recording a combined time of 2:08.73. 
  • A few spots back in 17th place was Michel Macedo, clocking in with a two-run time of 2:09.67.
  • Rounding out the scorers for the Panthers was Sebastian Segre in 20th (2:09.87). 
NORDIC HIGHLIGHTS
  • The men's squad placed all three scorers in the top-20 spots during the 10K freestyle to finish third overall with 89 points.
  • Pacing the group was Logan Moore, finishing in eighth with a time of 25:49.8.
  • Willson Moore was right behind in 11th place (26:08.8), while Sam Hodges rounded out the scorers in 19th (26:39.9).
  • The Panther women's team accumulated 82 points to finish in fourth place during the 5K freestyle. 
  • Leading the charge was Shea Brams in 11th with a time of 14:54.9. 
  • Also placing in the top 20 was Charlotte Ogden, clocking in at 15:15.7, which was good for 19th place.
  • Completing the scorers was Quincy Massey-Bierman, finishing in 21st place with a time of 15:22.3.
NOTES
  • Nullmeyer competed for Middlebury for the first time this season. The junior has been skiing most weekends for the Canadian Alpine Team on the World Cup circuit, including the World Championships last weekend.
  • L. Moore has placed in the top 10 in each of the 10 races this winter.
  • Yubero has skied to 10th place or better in five races this year. 
The alpine team is back in action on Saturday with the slalom at Whiteface Mountain, while the nordic squad competes in the classic on Mount Van Hoevenberg.
