Women’s Squash Eases Past Denison In CSA Walker Cup Quarters

Caroline Arena posted a three-game victory at #6.
The top-seeded Middlebury women's squash team began Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) Walker Cup play on Friday with an 8-1 victory over eighth-seeded Denison in quarterfinal action. The Panthers advance to the semifinals where they will play fifth-seeded Wesleyan who edged fourth-seeded Colby 5-4 in quarterfinal play.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury secured the first seven points without surrendering a single game.
  • Izzy Ronda (8, 7, 5), Margaux Comai (4, 1, 4) and Eva Finney (1, 1, 3) were victorious in the #3, #4 and #5 spots, respectively. 
  • In the sixth slot, Caroline Arena eased past her opponent by game scores of 11-3, 11-6 and 11-4.
  • Maya Bardorf improved to 12-1 with a sweep at #7 (3, 2, 5), while Abbie Peterson claimed a three-game victory one spot below (7, 7, 3).
  • Grace Santoro completed the impressive run of wins with an 11-3, 11-4, 11-1 decision at the bottom of the ladder. 
  • The Big Red secured their point with a five-game victory in the top spot.
  • Abby Holding wrapped up the scoring with an 11-8, 11-4, 11-5 victory in the #2 position for the final 8-1 tally.
NOTES
  • Comai picked up her 10th win of the season.
  • Finney allowed the least number of points on the day during her victory.
  • The contest was the first time that Middlebury and Denison played each other in women's squash.
  • The Panthers bested the Cardinals on December 3 by a similar 5-4 tally.
