Middlebury Opens NESCAC Championships with the 800 Freestyle Relay

Jack Paul competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay on the opening day of the NESCAC Championships.

The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team opened the four-day NESCAC Championship on Thursday night, competing in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Williams won the event and sits in first place with 90 points. Tufts (78) and Amherst (72) round out the top three. The Panthers sit in fifth with 66 points after one day of action, just four points behind fourth-place Connecticut College.

HIGHLIGHTS

Middlebury's "A" team of Riley Griffis, Jack Paul, Pierce Bigelow and Andrew Planting placed sixth out of 22 teams, touching the wall with a time of 6:46.84.
Ryan Mauney, Luke McNamara, Chris Weber and Matthew Hensel also took part in the race. The "B" quartet finished with a time of 6:54.03 and earned 18 points for Middlebury.

The Panthers will return to the pool on Friday at 10:00 a.m for the second day of NESCAC Championship action.
