Panthers Finish Fifth at NESCAC Championships

Hailey Vandenbosch recorded a personal-best time in the 200-yard butterfly
The Middlebury women's swimming and diving team put together a strong showing that included two personal-bests on the final day of the NESCAC Championships. The Panthers had their best finish since 2017, placing fifth with 907.5 points. Tufts won the conference championship for the second-straight year with 1,983.5 points. Williams finished second (1,614.5), while Amherst rounded out the top three (1,106).
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the 200-yard backstroke, Maddy Reid opened the night with a 14th place finish, touching the wall in 2:06.75. Isabel Pentony finished one spot behind Reid, with just .16 seconds separating the duo.
  • Emma Hall placed second in the consolation final of the 200 breaststroke and 10th overall with a time of 2:25.08. Bella Barragate touched the wall in 2:27.03 to claim the 14th overall spot.
  • Louise Hay earned 11 points for the Panthers in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 53.41 for a 16th place finish.
  • Hailey Vandenbosch and Mia Tarantola both recorded personal-best times in the 200 butterfly. Vandenbosch registered a time of 2:09.07, while Tarantola clocked in at 2:10.97 this evening.
  • Chloe Katz finished in eighth place in the 1,650 free, stopping the clock in 17:26.88. 
  • In the 400 free relay, Lily Siemasko, Hannah Baumgartner, Hay and Julianna Haensly claimed the ninth spot, clocking in at 3:32.69. The quartet of Avery Maxwell, Chloe Katz, Reid, and Elise Scott took home the 16th spot, touching the wall in 3:34.38.
NOTES
  • This morning, Scott and Katie Cantrell took part in the 100 butterfly time trial. Scott finished first with a time of 56.87, while Cantrell stopped the clock in 1:02.03.
 The Panthers will wait to find out selections for the NCAA Championship when the field is announced for the Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on March 15-18.
