Panthers Place Third at Harvard Carnival

Sophia Tozzi earned a season-best sixth place finish in slalom.
The Middlebury nordic skiing team earned podium finishes in both the men's and women's relays, while the alpine skiing team had five top-20 finishers in the slalom on Saturday to secure third place at this weekend's Harvard Carnival. Dartmouth won its first carnival of the year with 848 points, edging out the University of Vermont (835 points). The Panthers rounded out the top-three with 707 points.

ALPINE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophia Tozzi was the top finisher for Middlebury, taking sixth place with a two-run time of 1:33.97.
  • Emma Hall was the next scorer for Middlebury, placing 11th with a combined time of 1:34.70. Alexandra Cossette crossed the finish line just .02 behind Hall to claim the 12th spot.
  • On the men's side, Charlie Lang completed his two trips down the mountain in 1:36.71, good for 18th place.
  • Michel Macedo and Will Trudeau rounded out the scorers for the Panthers, finishing 33rd and 48th with times of 1:29.66 and 1:44.81, respectively.
NORDIC HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women's 3x5K relay featured an exciting battle between Middlebury (Quincey Massey-Bierman, Charlotte Ogden and Shea Brams) and UVM. The Catamounts took a slight edge after one lap, but Ogden responded and put Middlebury back in the lead. Brams maintained the advantage for almost the entirety of the final lap, but UVM came down the stretch fast and just edged out the Panthers by 2.3 seconds. Middlebury completed the race in 43 minutes flat.
  • Middlebury's second team of Mica Bodkins, Maggie Wagner and Anja Jensen also put together a strong run, placing sixth with a time of 45:19.2.
  • On the men's side, Panthers Sam Hodges, Logan Moore and Willson Moore raced to a third-place finish stopping the clock at 36:40.4. Hodges and L. Moore battled with Dartmouth and UVM, and each led the relay at multiple points. In the final lap, Harvard and Dartmouth tried to close the gap, but W. Moore was able to pull away from the rest of the pack to claim the final spot on the podium.
