Women’s Swimming & Diving Finishes Third Out Of 10 Teams At the Bomber Invite

Katz won three individual events and was part of a winning relay.
The Middlebury women's swimming and diving team finished in third place out of 10 teams at the three-day Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College this weekend. The hosts won the meet with 1,468 points, followed by Hamilton in second place (1,415 points) and the Panthers (1,386.5).
 
RELAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • The 800-yard freestyle relay comprised of Chloe Katz, Avery Maxwell, Louise Hay and Hannah Baumgartner won the event by nearly five seconds, clocking a time of 7:42.53. 
  • The quartet of Maddy Reid, Emma Hall, Elise Scott and Baumgartner placed second in the 200 medley relay, recording a time of 1:47.61, just four seconds off the school record. 
  • Also earning runner-up laurels was the 400 medley relay of Reid, Hall, Chloe Bautista and Baumgartner, clocking in at 3:57.51. 
  • Hay, Baumgartner, Katz and Maxwell teamed up in the 400 free relay, placing third with a time of 3:34.76.
  • In the 200 free relay, Annika Edwards, Bautista, Isabella Caddeau and Maxwell clocked in at 1:38.50, only four seconds off the school record, to earn fifth place. 
 
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Katz also shined in her individual events this weekend, winning three events. The Panther claimed the crown in the 400 individual medley (4:33.76), the 500 free (5:00.24) and the 1,650 free (17:10.25). 
  • Hall touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 2:24.13. The Panther also earned sixth place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.14. 
  • After winning a pair of events last weekend, Fayanne Smith-Salzberg had another strong showing. The rookie finished with runner-up honors in the 200 IM (2:09.97) and the 200 breaststroke (2:25.21). Smith-Salzberg placed third overall in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:06.69.
  • Bautista had four top-10 finishes over the weekend. She placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:09.11), third in the 100 IM (1:02.00), fifth in the 400 IM (4:41.86) and eighth in the 50 free (24.84). 
  • Hay earned runner-up laurels in the 200 freestyle with a clocking of 1:55.53. The Panther also finished fourth in the 500 free (5:12.88) and sixth in the 100 free (54.21). 
  • Bella Barragate rounded out the second-place finishers with a time of 1:06.58 in the 100 breaststroke. Barragate also placed fifth in the 200 breast (2:26.87) and seventh in the 200 IM (2:12.12).
  • Reid concluded her strong weekend with a third-place effort in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 57.93 seconds, while also placing 10th in the 200 back (2:10.83). 
  • Isabel Pentony earned fourth in the 200 back (2:08.61) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (59.57).
  • Rounding out the top-five finishers was Scott in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 58.59 and Baumgartner in the 200 free (1:57.13). 
 
Middlebury is idle until after winter break when it hosts Bowdoin on January 6 at 11:00 a.m.
