Men’s Swimming & Diving Finishes Runner-Up At The Ithaca Bomber Invitational

Hughes tallied several top-10 finished this weekend.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team wrapped up first-semester action with a second place finish during the three-day Ithaca Bomber Invitational. Ithaca won the team title with 1,592.5 points, while the Panthers accumulated 1,178 points and Hamilton rounded out the top-three teams with 1,108 points.

RELAY HIGHLIGHTS INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • During Friday's action, Griffis won the first event of the meet, leading the field to the wall with a winning time of 4:40.91 in the 500 free. Bigelow was third in the same event, with a clocking of 4:44.13.
  • Other top-eight efforts on the first day came from Chiappinelli who was fifth in the 50 free (21.36) and Hughes who tied for seventh in the 200 individual medley (1:57.50).
  • On Saturday, Griffis began the day with a runner-up swim in the 200 butterfly in 1:54.22. Also earning top-five efforts in the event were Luke McNamara, who finished in fourth place (1:54.57) and Jack Paul right behind in fifth (1:55.15).
  • Shen was second in the 100 breaststroke with a clocking of 56.77, while Hughes placed sixth in 100 backstroke in 52.00 and Undercoffler finished eighth at 52.34.
  • On Sunday, Dou was third in the 100 IM (53.89) and Griffis swam to sixth place in the 100 free (47.22).
  • In the final few events, Hughes touched in third place during the 200 back (1:55.70) while Hugh Hutchinson was fifth (1:57.22). Shen was second in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:05.51. 
Middlebury will be idle from competition until January 6 when it hosts Bowdoin at 11:00 a.m.
