Men’s Hockey Comes From Behind To Edge Connecticut College 3-2

The Middlebury men's ice hockey team tallied the final three goals of Friday's home opener, posting a 3-2 come-from-behind NESCAC victory over Connecticut College.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Camels got on the scoreboard just 34 seconds into the first period as Kareem Alazem ripped a shot from the right point that found the top corner of the Panther goal for the 1-0 advantage.
  • Middlebury looked to even the score near the midway point of the stanza, but a shot from Michael Fairfax was knocked away by Connecticut College goalie Sean Dynan.
  • The Camels had another quality scoring opportunity with 2:12 remaining, but Rocco Testa-Basi's bid hit the pipe and caromed away.
  • Connecticut College grabbed a 2-0 lead 52 seconds later when Cole Eichler collected a loose puck on his defensive blueline and lifted a shot into the top-left corner.
  • Nearly six minutes into the middle frame, the Panthers nearly sliced into the deficit when a shot by Bobby May from the left point was tipped in front by a Camel defender, but Dynan got his right pad on the puck to deny the chance.
  • Middlebury made it a 2-1 contest at 17:45 when Revy Mack collected his rebound on the doorstep and shoveled in a backhanded attempt into the back of the net.
  • The Panthers knotted the contest with 0.3 seconds remaining in the second period. Jake Oblak rifled a pass from the point that was redirected between the circles by Andrej Hromic to deadlock the contest at 2-2.
  • Connecticut College pressed to regain the lead 3:30 into the third period, but Middlebury netminder Jake Horoho saved back-to-back shots from Testa-Basi and Alazem to keep the contest knotted at two apiece.
  • Nolan Moore manufactured a great chance just over a minute later, muscling his way to the front of the net before lifting a shot that Nylan denied with the top of his glove.
  • The Panthers took a 3-2 advantage at 12:01 when Mack found a cutting Matt Myers between the circles. Myers blasted a left-handed shot just inside the right post that beat Dynan to give the hosts the one-goal edge.
  • The Camels pulled Dynan with 1:13 left but were unable to score the equalizer for the final 3-2 score.
NOTES
  • Mack tallied his first two career points in the victory, highlighted by his initial goal.
  • Horoho finished with 24 saves, stopping all 15 shots he faced in the final two periods to earn the win.
  • Hromic's score marked the third time in the last four contests that he has found the back of the net.
  • The triumph was the first for Panther interim head coach Jack Ceglarski.
  • The programs met for the 53rd time with Middlebury holding a 34-14-5 advantage in the all-time series and has won four straight.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. home contest against Tufts.
