Middlebury Opens Season With Dual Meet at #23 Connecticut College

Paul Shen picked up two event victories on Saturday.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team began the season with a 190-108 loss to 23rd-ranked Connecticut College. The Panthers picked up two event wins and numerous runner-up finishes. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Paul Shen claimed both breaststroke events. Chen posted a winning time in the 100 yard (1:00.07) and the 200 yard (2:13.70), respectively.
  • Middlebury recorded runner-up efforts in a pair of relays. The team of Jack Undercofler, Shen, Riley Griffis and Samuel Hughes touched the wall second in the 200 medley (1:36.37). In the final event of the meet, the quartet consisting of Prin Chantarangkul, Andrew Dou, Griffis and Hughes were second in the 200 free (1:27.49).
  • Hughes posted runner-up finishes in the 100 backstroke (53.12) and the 200 back (1:55.64).
  • Luke McNamara was second in the 200 butterfly (1:55.71) and the 200 individual medley (2:02.46).
  • On the diving boards, Ran Brown started the season with solid performances. He was second off the 1-meter and the 3-meter, accumulating 232.42 points and 230.85 points, respectively.
The Panthers have a week off from competition before traveling to Ithaca for the three-day Bomber Invitational beginning on Friday, December 1.
