Middlebury huddles up before the race begins.
The 18th-ranked Middlebury men's cross country team finished in 19th place at the 2023 NCAA Championship on a hilly course. Pomona-Pitzer won its third national title by just one point (158), while Wisconsin-La Crosse was right behind with 159 points and North Central (Ill.) rounded out the top three (169).

HIGHLIGHTS
- The first Middlebury finisher was Ziggy Goddard, moving up 19 spots over the final 2K to place 44th with a time of 25:12.5. This was the first time Goddard cracked the top-100 spots at the national championship, having placed 114th a year ago.
- Alec Gironda clocked in at 25:44.0 to finish 102nd overall, which was his best finish at the NCAA Championship, previously placing 177th (2022) and 211th (2021).
- Finishing in exactly 26 minutes was Shef West (151st), followed closely by Drew Donahue in 26:06.3 (159th).
- Rounding out the scorers was Benjamin Hughes, clocking in at 26:15.6 to crack the top-200 spots in his first ever NCAA Championship.
- Peter Burke (219th, 26:27.9) and Harry Griff (270th, 27:00.0) were also part of the Panther lineup.
NOTES
- A new NCAA Champion was crowned as Ethan Gregg of Wisconsin-La Crosse broke the tape with a course record clocking of 24:02.
- Goddard's twin brother Will also raced in the event, representing conference foe Bowdoin.
Middlebury earned an at-large bid to the championship and made its 13th-straight appearance on the national stage.
