Middlebury's
Cole Kennon found
Patrick Jamin for a 16-yard scoring strike with less than a minute left in the contest, lifting the Panthers past Williams 12-10.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The torrential rain significantly impacted the first quarter, with both teams turning the ball over throughout. Middlebury's Kieran Sheridan intercepted a pass by quarterback Owen McHugh on Williams' first possession of the game, but the Ephs forced a fumble on the Panthers' drive to recover the ball.
- On the next Williams' drive, Dave Filias forced and recovered a fumble, and the Ephs returned the favor when Middlebury was just inches from the endzone as the contest remained scoreless after 15 minutes of action.
- Williams looked to tally a touchdown with 5:20 left in the second quarter, but Finn Muldoon was in the endzone to break up the chance and force the Ephs to kick a field goal. Ivan Shuran split the uprights from 26 yards out to give the hosts a slight 3-0 edge.
- Middlebury nearly scored a touchdown on its next possession, marching down the field from its own 28-yard line. Kennon found Donovan Wood for a 34-yard reception, but a pair of throws were successfully defended by the Ephs in the endzone. Zach Levy converted a 23-yard field goal to knot the contest at 3-3.
- On the opening drive of the second half, a scrambling Kennon found Jamin for a 62-yard reception, before Levy split the uprights to give the Panthers a 6-3 advantage.
- With 3:53 left on the third quarter clock, George Papadopolus picked off a Middlebury pass, returning it for a 24-yard touchdown. Shuran tallied the PAT, giving Williams a 10-6 advantage.
- The Ephs nearly scored again at the end of the stanza, but were forced to settle for a field-goal attempt which sailed wide left to start the fourth frame.
- Middlebury's game-winning drive began with just 2:03 left in the contest. Kennon completed a 20-yard pass to Jamin, before rushing 10 yards to put the Panthers within striking distance at the Williams 21-yard line. Kennon found Jamin 16 yards down on the left sideline, and Jamin ran the ball into the endzone to put Middlebury up 12-10.
- On 4th and seven, John McCool broke up a pass by McHugh to end the final Williams' drive and secure the 12-10 triumph for the Panthers.
