Women’s Swimming & Diving Clipped by #23 Bates

Lia Smith recorded two wins off the diving boards.
The Middlebury women's swimming and diving team took nationally-ranked Bates down to the wire, with the last relay deciding the winner of the event. The #23 Bobcats squeaked past the Panthers, winning the meet 154-141.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chloe Katz earned a victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:57.82) and finished second in the 500 free (5:15.72). Katz stopped the clock 10 seconds before the next finisher in her 1,650 free triumph.
  • Zoe Tray claimed the top spot in the 200 breaststroke (2.27.41), while Elise Scott touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (59.62). 
  • Izzy Pentony finished runner-up during the 100 backstroke, stopping the clock at 59.80.
  • Hailey Vandenbosch took home the second spot in the 200 butterfly. Vandenbosch's time of 2:12.79 was just a tenth of a second behind the winner.  
  • A pair of relay squads earned runner-up honors for the Panthers. The 200 medley quartet of Hannah Baumgartner, Emma Hall, Maddy Reid and Scott clocked in at 1:50.50. In the 200 free relay, Baumgartner, Louise Hay, Lily Siemasko and Julianna Haensley finished with a time of 1:40.24.
  • Off the diving boards, Lia Smith finished first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter, with point totals of 244.50 (1m) and 277.73 (3m), respectively.
NOTES
  • The Panthers will return to the pool when they take on Bowdoin in the Middlebury Natatorium on Saturday, January 14.
