Men’s Swimming and Diving Edged by Bobcats 153-141

The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team dropped a tight 153-141 decision at Bates on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers battled the Bobcats throughout the meet, but the hosts claimed the top spot in the final relay event to win the meet. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Luke McNamara touched the wall first during both the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:45.15) and  the 400 individual medley (4:15.03) events, respectively.
  • Off the diving boards, the Panthers claimed the top-four spots in both the one- and three-meter boards. Jason Rickenbacher placed first in each event with scores of 272.39 (1m) and 227.33 (3m) points, respectively. 
  • Riley Griffis took home two first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (51.83) and the 200 free (1:41.78). 
  • Samuel Hughes stopped the clock in the 200 backstroke (1:56.45) to earn first place in the event.
  • In the 500 free, Pierce Bigelow secured the top spot with a time of 4:52.27.
  • The relay team of Aidan McKenrick, Andrew Dou, Christopher Pedersen and Hughes finished in second in 200 free relay, touching the wall in 1:27.40.
NOTES
  • Bigelow recorded his first career individual victory during the meet.
  • Middlebury will be back in action as it returns home to face Bowdoin on Saturday, January 14.
