Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Eighth-Ranked Women’s Hockey Ties Endicott 3-3

The #8 Middlebury women's ice hockey team scored once in all three periods and skated to a 3-3 tie at Endicott on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Gulls had a good scoring chance nearly three minutes into the opening period, but Panther goalie Sophia Merageas saved a slap shot from the right by Kellie Popkin.
  • Middlebury grabbed a 1-0 lead on the power play at the 13:47 mark. Jenna Letterie collected the puck along the right boards, sending a pass to Avery McInerny between the circles. McInerny ripped the puck between the legs of Endicott goalie Michaela O'Brien to open the scoring.
  • The Panthers continued their offensive pressure, firing five shots in the ensuing 53 seconds that O'Brien saved to keep it a 1-0 contest.
  • Middlebury increased its lead to 2-0 at 8:09 of the period. Raia Schluter found space between the circles, firing a wrister into the upper-left corner.
  • With 2:04 left, Merageas made a save with her left pad on a shot by Quin Healy to send the contest to the third with the Panthers up 2-0.
  • The Gulls sliced the Middlebury lead to one (2-1) just 1:22 into the third stanza, as Sydney Fascetta poked in a loose puck from just outside the crease.
  • Endicott tied the contest 2-2 at the 13:24 mark on a two-on-one chance, as Kat Keith lifted the puck over the shoulder of Merageas for the equalizer.
  • Following a scrum in front of the Gull net, a penalty was called on the hosts. Britt Nawrocki took the penalty shot for the Panthers, firing a blast through the five-hole to give the visitors a 3-2 edge at the 10:27 mark of the third.
  • Kaylee Liberty knotted the contest 3-3 in the waning seconds of the power play. The Gull gathered the loose puck between the circles and shoveled a backhanded shot into the left side of the goal with 1:25 left, sending the contest into overtime.
  • With both sides skating three-on-three in the extra session, Middlebury's Jordan Hower had a chance at 1:47 on the rush that looked as if it had crossed the goal line, but the officials waved it off and play continued.
  • Just 29 seconds later, Popkin rifled a slap shot from the right point that Merageas slid to her right to save as neither side scored to earn the 3-3 tie.
