Women’s Squash Rolls Past #19 Georgetown 7-2

Eva Finney earned a five-game victory in her first match of the season.
The 17th-ranked Middlebury women's squash team began the 2023 portion of its schedule by rolling past #19 Georgetown 7-2 on Friday afternoon. The match was played at Navy's Prager Family Squash Facility.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Abby Holding scored the first point for the Panthers, earning a three-game victory in the #2 slot (11-9, 11-7, 11-5).
  • Abbie Peterson followed with a three-game win to put Middlebury ahead 2-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-5), before Kieran Suntha made it a 3-0 lead with a three-game victory at the bottom of the ladder (11-8, 11-5, 11-4).
  • Georgetown scored five-game wins in the sixth and fourth slots to cut the Panther lead to one (3-2).
  • In the eighth spot, Maya Bardorf edged her opponent in three games (13-11, 11-7, 12-10) to restore Middlebury's two-point advantage (4-2). 
  • Izzy Ronda clinched the match for the Panthers, securing a triumph in the #3 spot (11-2, 11-7, 5-11, 11-4).
  • Lindsey Burnham was next to finish for Middlebury, wrapping up a four-game win at the top of the ladder (11-4, 7-11, 11-2, 12-10).
  • Eva Finney closed out the match by earning a five-game victory (11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 12-14, 11-7) to give the Panthers a 7-2 win. 
NOTES
  • Finney, Bardorf and Caroline Arena played in their first matches of the season after returning from studying abroad in the fall.
  • Holding earned her 10th career victory during the win.
  • This was just the second time Middlebury and Georgetown faced off in the all-time series with the Panthers claiming both contests.
