Panther Relays Dominate At The Middlebury Invitational

Luke McNamara won the 200 backstroke.
The Panther men's swimming and diving team won three relays and had five individual first-place efforts at the annual two-day Middlebury Invitational. 
 
RELAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • The 400-yard medley relay quartet of Jack Undercofler, Paul Shen, Riley Griffis and Samuel Hughes stopped the clock in 3:25.99 to win the event. The B team of Chris Weber, Matthew Hensel, Andrew Dou and Christopher Pedersen were right behind in second (3:29.55). 
  • The 800 freestyle relay also claimed top honors. Undercofler, Hensel, Pierce Bigelow and Ryan Mauney combined for a time of 6:54.23. The B team of Andrew Planting, Fran Curran, Weber and Luke McNamara finished in second place (7:04.50).
  • The 400 free style relay squad (Aidan McKenrick, Griffis, Hensel and Hughes) was also victorious, stopping the clock in 3:07.96 to claim the crown. 
  • The 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of McKenrick, Dou, Pedersen and Hughes was less than a tenth of a second behind Williams, placing second with a clocking of 1:25.23. 
  • The 200 medley relay comprised of Undercofler, Hensel, Griffis and Hughes finished in second with a time of 1:33.81.
 
INDIVIDUAL FINISHES
  • Will Sonne was first in the 200 butterfly, claiming the crown with a time of 1:55.52. The Panther also finish second in the 400 individual medley (IM), clocking in at 4:14.93. 
  • In the 100 backstroke, Ben Merz won the event with a time of 53.83, while Sam Pelletier was second (54.01).
  • Griffis claimed the 100 free (46.76), while Dominic Frerichs swam to second place in the 100 free with a time of 48.30. Griffis also earned runner-up honors in the 50 free (21.94).
  • In the 200 back, McNamara was first (1:55.90), followed closely by Hugh Hutchinson (1:55.98). 
  • Rounding out the first-place finishes was Curran in the 500 free, stopping the clock in 4:50.80. Jack Paul placed second in the event with a time of 4:53.55.
  • Jason Rickenbacher finished in second place off both the 1-meter (410.50 points) and 3-meter (434.55 points) boards.
  • Skylar Diamandis rounded out the runner-up finishes, clocking in at 51.88 in the 100 fly.
 
Middlebury will be idle until February 16 when it travels to Wesleyan for the NESCAC Championships.
