Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Hockey Edged By Tufts 4-3 In Overtime

The Middlebury men's hockey trailed 2-0 in the second stanza but battled back to tie the contest 3-3 in the third period. The comeback attempt fell just short, as the visitors took advantage of a five-on-three situation in overtime, edging the hosts 4-3.

 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers produced a quality scoring chance 2:41 into an evenly-played opening period, but EMack Bentley's shot from between the circles was saved by Jumbo netminder Peyton Durand.
  • The Jumbos manufactured three opportunities over the remainder of the stanza with the best coming at the 12:28 mark. Mason Kohn skated in with a head of steam, ripping a shot from the left dot that was saved by the pad of Panther goalie Jake Horoho to keep the game scoreless.
  • Tufts got on the scoreboard 4:41 into the second frame on the power play. Harrison Bazianos laced a wrister from the right point that trickled through traffic for the 1-0 edge.
  • Middlebury nearly tied the contest with 11:54 expired, but Bret Pastor's rising shot from the blueline was saved by Durand before it pinged off the crossbar and caromed away.
  • The visitors increased their lead (2-0) less than a minute later. Joel Brandinger collected a loose puck in the offensive zone, blasting a bid from the right point that found the upper-right portion of the goal.
  • The Panthers cut the deficit to one (2-1) with 4:00 left in the period, as Ryan Pineault tucked his shot over the right shoulder of Durand.
  • Both teams had chances in the final 2:30, but Horoho saved a bid by Tyler Sedlak and Durand forced Middlebury's Michael Fairfax to skate wide and send his shot off target.
  • Tufts nearly grabbed a two-goal lead just over three minutes into the third period, but Brennan Horn's one-timer was saved by Horoho using his right pad.
  • The Panthers knotted the score (2-2) at 9:54 when Jin Lee scored on a pretty wraparound shot that found space between Durand's skate and the post.
  • The Jumbos regained their lead at 3-2 just 1:47 later when Horn shoveled in the puck from just outside the crease.
  • Middlebury increased its pressure in the zone, tying the game (3-3) when Nolan Moore tapped in his own rebound with 4:07 left.
  • Tufts nearly scored just seconds after that, but Horoho made two quality saves on shots by Aidan Lovett and Tyler Sedlak to keep the game knotted.
  • The Panthers looked for one last bid with 1:47 remaining on a two-on-one chance, but Zach Whitehead's shot hit the crossbar over Durand and bounced away to send the contest to overtime.
  • Skating five-on-three in overtime, the Jumbos won the game 39 seconds into the stanza when Sam Miller poked in the puck in from the doorstep for the 4-3 final score.
