Men’s Soccer Earns Hard-Fought Draw at #11 Bowdoin

The Middlebury men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw at #11 Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. Middlebury took an early lead, but the Polar Bears equalized midway through the second half, leaving nothing to separate the two sides.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury got on the scoreboard just seven minutes into the match. Jordan Saint-Louis broke away down the left side, following a through ball from Kyle Nilsson. One-on-one with his defender, Saint-Louis whipped a cross into the box, and the ball deflected off a Bowdoin defender and trickled into the net, making it 1-0.
  • Bowdoin's first chance came at the 12:46 mark. Ronaldo Cabral drove a low strike toward the goal from the top of the 18, but Middlebury goalie Ryan Grady dove to his right to make the save.
  • Ben Powers almost doubled the Panthers' advantage in the 22nd minute, as he rose highest to win a header, but his effort struck the post.
  • Just a minute later, Bowdoin had a great chance to equalize. Tyler Huck cut in from the right side and fired a shot from eight yards out toward the bottom-right corner, but Grady thwarted the attempt.
  • Bowdoin was able to break through during the 75th minute. Huck received a pass from Felipe Duran, and fired it past Grady, knotting the score at 1-1.
  • Both teams had chances to tally the game-winner in the last final 10 minutes of the contest. In the 80th minute, Alem Hadzic had a strong effort saved by Bowdoin goalkeeper Michael Webber. Six minutes later, Huck was once again at the center of the action, but this time his potential game-winning strike was denied by Grady.
NOTES
  • Grady's five-save performance was a season high.
  • Today's 1-1 result was the most goals scored in a match between Middlebury and Bowdoin since 2016.
