Gironda Wins at VTC Maple Syrup Challenge as #15 Middlebury Wins Season-Opening Meet

Alec Gironda opens the year with a win at the VTC Maple Syrup Challenge

The #15 Middlebury men's cross country team took home the top spot at the Vermont Technical College (VTC) Maple Syrup Challenge. The Panthers placed eight runners in the top 10, with Alec Gironda claiming the individual crown.

HIGHLIGHTS 
  • Middlebury won the meet with a total of 15 points. Saint Michael's finished in second (59 points), while Fitchburg State rounded out the top-three (83 points). 
  • Gironda finished in first place with a time of 27:05.50.
  • Luke Lorenz placed second just behind him, stopping the clock at 27:27.72.
  • Max Cluss and Owen Johnson crossed the finish line in third and fourth place, respectively, both finishing with an identical time of 28:21.33.
  • Ziggy Goddard was the final scorer for the Panthers, finishing just two seconds behind Cluss and Johnson.
  • Johnny LaFortune, Peter Burke, and Zander Kessler rounded out the race's top 10 finishers, crossing the finish line in eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.
