Two Firsts Highlight Panthers At New England Division III Championships

The Middlebury men's track and field team had a big final day at the 2022 New England Division III Championship on Saturday, boasting two first-place efforts and had two more runners claim second. The Panthers finished 10th overall with 40 points with Massachusetts Institute of Technology running away with the team title with 132.5 points and Tufts in second with 76. Middlebury will compete at the Open New England Championships next weekend hosted by Bryant University.

The top-eight finishers in each event over the two-day event earned All-New England honors.

Middlebury's best event came in the 1,500 meters with three runners placing in the top eight. Max Cluss won the race in 3:53.86, just ahead of Quinlan McGaugh (3:54.58). Luke Lorenz was the third Panther to garner All-New England honors, finishing eighth with a clocking of 4:01.48.

Peter Hansen took top honors in the 400m hurdles, earning a personal-best time of 53.37 seconds.

In the 3,000 steeplechase, Ziggy Goddard finished second with a time of 9:39.19. Ryan Devine claimed sixth in the race, stopping the clock at 9:48.04.
