The #25 Middlebury women's golf team heads to Massachusetts to compete at the 2022 NESCAC Women's Golf Championship this weekend. The 36-hole event will be hosted by Amherst on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 at the Amherst Golf Club.

The Mammoths earned the rights to host when they won the NESCAC Women's Golf Championship Fall Qualifier with a two-day total of 580 (291-289) at Nonesuch River Golf Club in Scarborough, Maine on October 10. Teams will tee off this weekend at 9:00 a.m. on both days.
The top four teams from the fall qualifier and the top four individual finishers with the lowest scores outside the four qualifying teams at the qualifier make up the field for the NESCAC Women's Golf Championship. Joining Amherst will be Hamilton, Middlebury, and Williams in the team competition, while Maddy Kwei (Bates), Alex Voight-Shelley (Bates), Nerea Barranco Aramburu (Bates), and Milan Yorke (Wesleyan) will compete as individuals.
NESCAC Fall Qualifier Recap
After shooting a team total of 291 on Day 1, the Mammoths lowered their team score by three strokes on Sunday (289) to claim first place by 15 strokes. Amherst first-year Gihoe Seo earned individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 141. She posted an even-par 71 on Saturday and a one-under 70 on Sunday to lead the Mammoths. Classmate Jessica Huang shot even-par (71) on Sunday to finish two strokes back (72-71-143) tying for second place. Junior Janelle Jin (75-73-146) and sophomore Jenny Hua (73-76-149) finished tied for eighth and 10th, respectively to give the Mammoths four top-10 finishers.
Middlebury junior
Katie Murphy carded the lowest round on Sunday, firing a 67 (-4), shaving 10 strokes off her first-round score to move up nine spots on the leaderboard. She finished in a tie for fourth and one stroke behind first-year teammate
Audrey Tir. Tir had the lowest round on Saturday (70) and shot a 73 on Day 2 to finish tied for second with Huang. The duo helped the Panthers improve one spot and finish as the runner-up in the team standings.
The Ephs also moved up one spot to finish third on the second day. Williams stood in fourth after posting a score of 307 on Day 1 and recorded a 290 on Sunday. Sophomore Tianyi Zhuang paced Williams with a 36-hole score of 144 (73-71) to tie for fourth.
Emily Moy led Hamilton to a fourth-place team finish with rounds of 71-75 (146) and finished in a tie for sixth. After shooting a program-low 295 on Saturday, the Continentals added a score of 309 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 604.
2022 Spring Season
Williams opened the spring season in California at the Bulldog Classic hosted by the University of the Redlands. The Ephs finished in a tie for first with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and won the event on a scorecard playoff. Junior Catalin Yturralde was the top golfer for Williams, carding a two-day total of 144 (73-71), to finish tied for second.
All four teams played in the Vassar Invitational (April 16-17) with Amherst placing second on the team leaderboard to lead the NESCAC teams. Gihoe paced the Mammoths with rounds of 74 and 77 (151) to finish second overall. Senior Olivia White's two-round total of 153 (78-75) was good for third place among the individual golfers and Williams finished third as a team. Middlebury placed fourth behind junior Elizabeth Kanter's ninth-place effort and a 36-hole total of 157 (80-77). Hamilton first-year Olivia Strigh tied for 19th (84-79-163) as the Continentals finished seventh as a team.
The four NESCAC teams also competed at Amherst's Leaman Invitational (April 23-24). Yturralde tied for medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 147 (74-73) and Williams led the NESCAC contingent finishing as the runner-up with a two-day team score of 607. Amherst's Huang was third overall (75-74-14) to lead the Mammoths to a third-place team finish. Kenter (T10 – 75-80-155) paced the Panthers for the second straight tournament as they tied for fifth with Hamilton on the team leaderboard. Stingh finished tied for 16th with rounds of 83 and 75 (158) to lead the Continentals.
