The Middlebury men's outdoor track and field team hosted Union and Plattsburgh State for a tri-meet on Saturday at Dragone Field, winning the event with 164 points, followed by Plattsburgh State (83) and Union (67). This was the final competition for Middlebury before competing at the NESCAC Championships on April 30.
Prior to the meet, the program recognized its nine seniors for their hard work and dedication. This group was part of the 2019 NESCAC Championship team. Seniors include Will Behm, Daniel Brey, Liam Hoagland, Alexander Kessler, Quinlan McGaugh, Max Memeger, Gardner Olson, Jack Rudnick and Noah Whiting.
The Panthers excelled in the field events, recording seven first-place finishes. Caleb Fineske boasted a winning height of 5'7" in the high jump, while Joel Kofman took top honors in the pole vault clearing 13'1.5". Walker Coleman sailed 20'5" to win the long jump and Santi Canella bounced his way to a distance of 41'6" in claiming the top spot in the triple jump.
Samuel Maxwell won the discus with a distance of 127'8" and Brey had the best heave of the day in the hammer throw at 164'3". Olson recorded the top distance in the javelin with a heave of 162'10".
Max Cluss crossed the finish line first in the 800 meters, completing the two laps in 1:58.69, McGaugh won the 1,500m in 3:56.25, while Peter Hansen took top honors in the 400 hurdles in 54.77 seconds.
The Middlebury 4x100 relay team of Marco Motroni, Daryl Edwards, Finn Warner and Aaron Tobias combined for a time of 43.44 seconds to place first.
