Men's Golf Ties For Sixth At Fred Kravetz Invitational

Colin McCaigue fired a 74 on Sunday.
The Middlebury men's golf team concluded its opening weekend of the spring season at the Fred Kravetz Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester. The Panthers finished in a sixth-place tie with St. Lawrence, as both teams came in with a two-day total of 635 at the eight-team event. The host Yellowjackets claimed the team title with a combined two-day total of 599 (307-292), followed by Wittenberg's 603 (309-294) and Rochester's "B" team at 618 (324-294). UR's Nishant Datta won medalist honors by one stroke with a 148 (73-75).   Middlebury returns to action on April 30-May 1 at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Hamilton at the Yahnundasis Golf Club.
 
Phin Choukas tied for 10th among 42 golfers, shooting an even-par 71 on Sunday at the 6,745-yard Oak Hill Country Club for a two-day score of 153. Choukas had birdies on his first, ninth and 16th holes to go along with three bogeys to shoot level par. 
 
Tying for 27th were Panthers Colin McCaigue and Kenneth Dieker with identical scores of 160. McCaigue fired a 74 with birdies on the 11th and 13th holes on Sunday, while Dieker posted a 75 in round two with birdies on his first and 16th holes. 
 
Sean McGarrity was 33rd with scores of 87 and 77, birdieing his 12th and 16th holes on Sunday, while Hogan Beazley rounded out the squad with a combined effort of 167 (92-75). Beazley tallied a birdie on the par-5 16th hole during his final round and tied for 37th place.
