Strong Singles Play Lifts Men’s Tennis To 6-3 Upset Over #24 Pacific

Box Score The Middlebury men's tennis team continued its spring trip on Sunday, knocking off 24th-ranked Pacific (Ore.) by a 6-3 score in a match played in Claremont, California. The Panthers (4-1) return to the courts on Monday at Division II Azusa Pacific starting at 5:30 p.m. eastern.
 
The Boxers (4-5) raced out to a 2-0 lead in doubles with victories in the top-two slots. The #3 Panther duo of Zachary Hilty and Neel Epstein drew Middlebury to within 2-1 via an 8-2 win.
 
The Panthers leveled the match at 2-2 when Zihao Yuan blanked his opponent at #6, before Pacific evened the score at 3-3 with a straight-set victory at the top of the lineup.
 
Hilty put Middlebury ahead for good with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fifth spot, while Aidan Harris recorded the fifth team point behind a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at #2. Epstein battled back after dropping the opening set in the fourth position, posting 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory for the final 6-3 decision.
