Justin Alkier finished 11th in Friday's slalom.
The Middlebury alpine ski team produced solid efforts in the slalom on the second day of competition during the NCAA Championships at Park City Mountain Resort in Park City, Utah. The men's squad finished seventh in the event with 32 points, while the women were 10th with 17. With one more day of action on Saturday, the Panthers are in seventh place out of 23 teams in the standings with 180.5 points. Host Utah continues to lead the way with 405 points, while the University of Vermont (377.5 points), Denver (372.5 points) Colorado (368 points) and Westminster (231 points) round out the top-five teams.
Justin Alkier sat in 18th after the first run (55.22) on Friday, but he posted the quickest second run and was the only skier to go under a minute (59.93), good for a combined time of 1:55.15 and 11th place.
Bradshaw Underhill was 26th after run one (56.61), recording a solid second-run mark of 1:01.03 for a two-run time of 1:57.64 and 21st place.
Axel Bailey was the other Middlebury men's racer, finishing 29th overall with a time of 2:23.46.
On the women's side,
Mika-Anne Reha finished 23rd with a combined time of 1:54.25.
Lucia Bailey was fifth after run one (51.46) and finished in 25th place with her two runs down the mountain in 1:58.29.
Sofia Yubero rounded out the Panther women's scorers in 28th place (2:28.41).
