The Middlebury Nordic ski team finished the opening day in sixth place at the Vermont Carnival on Friday. The Catamounts lead the field of 14 programs with 258 points, followed by Dartmouth (217) and the University of New Hampshire (170), while the Panthers have 144. Middlebury returns to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center on Saturday for the 10K Classic. Both days of alpine skiing at Mount Mansfield Ski Club and Academy were canceled due to the weather.

For the women, Kate Oldham paced the Panthers in the freestyle sprint, placing 10th with a time of 4:20. Avery Ellis also cracked the top 20, finishing in the 17th spot in 4:24. Quincy Massey-Bierman capped the scoring for Middlebury, crossing the finish line in 4:29 to place 26th.

Sam Hodges was the top men's finisher, taking the 15th spot in 3:41. Josh Valentine was next for the Panthers in 3:42 to place 19th, while Jack Christner was 34th (3:46).
