Middlebury Finishes Third at EISA Championships

Willson Moore raced to eighth place in Saturday's 10K classic.
The Middlebury ski teams utilized a strong second day on its way to a third-place finish at the EISA Championships hosted by the University of New Hampshire (UNH). The University of Vermont (UVM) recorded 981 points to win the carnival, while UNH (728 points) edged the Panthers (724 points) for second place. Nordic action took place at the Jackson Cross Country Center, while the alpine events were contested at Cannon Mountain/Mittersill. Select Middlebury skiers will return to action from March 9-12 at the NCAA Championships in Park City, Utah.

During the Nordic men's 10K classic, the Panthers had all three scorers in the top-15 spots for the second-straight day. Peter Wolter concluded a strong carnival for the Panthers, finishing with a runner-up time of 26:28.9. Willson Moore was eighth in the race with a time of 27:25.4, while Logan Moore crossed the line in 13th place (27:41.4). The trio helped lead the team to a second-place finish for the second time in as many days.

Charlotte Ogden was eighth in the 5K classic to lead the Panther women with a time of 15:46. Avery Ellis was seconds behind in 13th place (15:59.2), while Quincy Massey-Bierman completed the scorers in 28th (16:20.5).

The men's alpine team placed four skiers in the top-16 spots, finishing second in the giant slalom. Justin Alkier found a spot on the podium with a third-place combined time of 2:10.16, while Bradshaw Underhill was right behind in fourth (2:10.90). Axel Bailey tallied a 15th-place finish with a two-run time of 2:13.58.

In the women's giant slalom, Alexandra Cossette was eighth with a two-run clocking of 2:17.08. Samantha McClellan made her two runs down the mountain with a combined time of 2:18.04 for 16th, while Sarah Brown was 25th (2:20.05).
