Panthers Garner All-New England Honors

Caleb Fineske broke his own school record in the triple jump.

The Middlebury men's indoor track and field team hosted the Division III New England Championships this weekend at the Virtue Field House, finishing seventh out of 25 institutions. The Panthers collected 45 points, as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology scored 152 points to run away with the team title.

The top-eight finishers in each event over the two-day event earned All-New England honors.

In the field events, Caleb Fineske broke his own school record in the triple jump, finishing with a distance of 43'5" to place eighth, which topped the mark of 42'10.75" he set last month.

Max Cluss turned in a winning performance in the 1,000 meters, crossing the finish line first in 2:30.77. Middlebury had a strong showing in the 3,000 meters with two runners placing in the top five. Drew Donahue was third (8:24.07) and was one of three individuals to top the old Virtue Field House record of 8:24.82 set back in 2018 by Scott Mason from Connecticut College. Ziggy Goddard was fifth (8:26.62).

The 4x800 relay team of Noah Whiting, Peter Burke, Liam Hoagland and Alexander Kessler placed second, combining for a time of 8:00.64.

In the 400m, Peter Hansen boasted a time of 50.98 to place fifth and later in the meet was part of the 4x400 relay team that was sixth. Also competing in the relay, which had a time of 3:26.77, was Aaron Tobias, Cluss and Connor Randall.
