#22 William Smith Holds Off #19 Panthers, 5-4

Evan Weiss overcame a two-game deficit to win 3-2 at #9.
The #19 Middlebury women's squash team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to #22 William Smith on Friday in the Walker Division Quarterfinals at the 2022 Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) Championships. The Panthers (5-9) will play 18th-ranked Stanford on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the consolation round at Harvard, while the Herons (12-4) advance to the semifinals.

Middlebury fell behind 3-0, but claimed three of the next four matches to close to within a point at 4-3. Firdaus Shallo tallied the first win for the Panthers in the eighth slot, winning 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-4). After William Smith made it 4-1, Middlebury received a 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-8) victory from Caroline Arena in the third spot on the ladder, while Maya Bardorf earned a 3-1 (9-11, 11-9, 14-12, 11-8) triumph at the fifth position.

The Herons secured the deciding fifth point with a win at the top of the ladder, but Middlebury's Evan Weiss let the Panthers finish on a positive note. Weiss fell behind 2-0 in her match at #9, but stormed back with three-straight victories for the 3-2 (10-12, 9-11, 11-1, 11-7, 11-2) win.
