The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team placed eighth out of 11 teams at the 2022 NESCAC Championships. Colby served as the host of the four-day event inside the Colby Aquatics Center. The Panthers accumulated 585 points, while Williams took home its third-straight title and 19th overall with 2,086 points. Tufts (1,577.5 points) and Amherst (1,069 points) rounded out the top-three teams.
Highlighting the night in the pool for the Panthers was
Samuel Hughes, who finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:49.48. In the final event of the championship, the 400 free relay team composed of
Aidan McKenrick,
Jake Gaughan,
Riley Griffis and Hughes tied for sixth place with a clocking of 3:04.39.
Middlebury also posted four 22nd-place efforts on Sunday evening.
David Porges stopped the clock during the 1,650 free with a time of 16:48.08, while McKenrick touched the wall during the 100 free in 46.77).
Matthew Hensel tallied his finish during the 200 breaststroke (2:08.11), while
Eli Drachman competed in the 200 butterfly (1:55.77). Each of those respective times were season-best marks.
On the 3-meter diving board,
Liam Smith placed ninth with 359.75 points, while
Ryan Greguski earned 11th place amassing 326.75 points.
