Mika-Anne Reha finished fifth in Friday's slalom.
The Middlebury Nordic ski team kicked off the Dartmouth Carnival on Friday, placing fourth after the opening day of competition. In the men's 10k classic, Panther Peter Wolter won his race, leading a group of three Nordic skiers that placed in the top eight finishers. The Big Green lead the field of 14 programs with 247 points, followed by Vermont (203), the University of New Hampshire (202) and Middlebury (178). The Panther alpine team competed in an individual NCAA qualifier slalom event and will return to the Dartmouth Skiway on Saturday for a second day of racing which will count towards the Dartmouth Carnival scoring, while the Nordic squad competes in the 10k freestyle at Ski Center at Oak Hill.
At the Skiway,
Mika-Anne Reha was the first Middlebury athlete to cross the finish line, taking fifth place in a two-run time of 1:35.88.
Lucia Bailey placed 13th in 1:37.04, while
Sofia Yubero placed 15th (1:37.18).
Axel Bailey cracked the top 20 for the men, completing his two strips down the mountain in 1:43.71 to place 19th.
Holden Parazette was 33rd with a clocking of 1:46.81. Middlebury's three other skiers did not finish on their first run.
In the men's 10k classic, Middlebury had a very strong showing, led by Wolter's top time of 28:06.5, finishing 35 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Sam Hodges completed the course in 29:02.3 to place sixth, while Willson Moore crossed the finish line two spots later with a clocking of 29:14.6.
In the women's 5k, Avery Ellis was the first Panther finisher with a time of 17:56.0 to place 20th. Anja Jensen took 36th in 18:38.2, while Charlotte Ogden was 38th (18:42.0).
