Middlebury nordic alumni Sam Wood '19 (guide) along with Bowdoin alumni Jake Adicoff '18 (athlete) have been named to the United States Paralympic Team for the Beijing Paralympics. The duo will lead the men's visually impaired (VI) class, as Adicoff makes his third Paralympic appearance.
Longtime friends, Adicoff and Wood are teammates on the Sun Valley Ski Educational Foundation (SVSEF) XC Gold Team and enter Beijing as one of the top podium contenders in their field.
The pair has been outstanding this winter season, earning three medals at the World Para Snow Championships a few weeks ago. The pair won gold in the men's VI cross country long listance, silver in the men's VI cross country sprint and bronze in the men's VI cross country long distance.
Adicoff raced at both the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi, Russia and the 2018 Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. In 2018, he won a silver medal in the 10K classic and placed fourth in the classic sprint and fifth in the 20K free. He took several years off following the 2018 Games, before accepting an invitation to join the team for a training camp last February.
The 2022 Paralympics run from March 4 through March 13 in Beijing, China.
