#17 Women’s Squash Splits Pair Of Saturday Matches

The 17th-ranked Middlebury women's squash team was defeated by #14 William Smith 7-2 in Saturday's first match, but bounced back to earn a 5-4 victory over Wesleyan to earn the split.
 
HIGHLIGHTS VS WILLIAM SMITH
  • The Herons jumped out to an early lead, taking the first seven matches. 
  • Lindsey Burnham posted the first point for Middlebury, scoring a four-game triumph in the top slot (11-5, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6).
  • Margaux Comai followed with a four-game win in the middle of the ladder to close out the match (11-7, 11-7, 11-13, 11-3).
HIGHLIGHTS VS WESLEYAN
  • Middlebury opened with a 2-0 lead, as Izzy Ronda (11-6, 11-4, 11-8) at #3 and Firdaus Shallo (11-7, 11-7, 11-9) in the seventh slot each picked up three-game victories.
  • The Cardinals leveled the score at 2-2 after winning matches at #9 and #5. 
  • Abby Holding cruised to a 3-0 victory (11-6, 11-4, 11-8) in the second position to restore the Panthers' advantage. 
  • Trailing 4-3 after wins by Wesleyan at #8 and #6, Burnham earned a decisive three-game win (11-6, 11-6, 11-5) at the top of the ladder. 
  • With the match knotted at 4-4, Comai tallied a three-game victory in the #4 spot to give the Panthers the 5-4 win (11-7, 11-1, 11-8).
NOTES
  • Burnham and Comai both improved to 4-0 on the season.
  • Middlebury and William Smith faced off for the ninth time, with the Panthers leading the all-time series 7-2.
  • Middlebury leads the all-time series 38-7 and has won 22-straight matches over the Cardinals.
