Men’s Swimming & Diving Defeats Springfield 161-139

Riley Griffis earned two individual wins during Middlebury's 161-139 victory.
The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team earned a decisive 161-139 victory over Springfield on Saturday afternoon, closing out first-semester action.
 
HIGHLIGHTS  
  • The Panthers won both relays of the meet. Jack Undercofler, Matthew Hensel, Andrew Dou, and Samuel Hughes took the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.96. 
  • Hughes and Dou teamed up with Aidan McKenrick and Riley Griffis in the 200 freestyle relay, stopping the clock in 1:27.11.
  • Will Sonne earned the top spot in the 1,000 free, touching the wall in 10:20.41.
  • Griffis picked up two individual triumphs on the day, finishing first in the 100 free (48.05) and 100 butterfly (52.13).
  • Paul Shen claimed first place in both the 50 (28.12) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.91),
  • Hughes finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.12 and claimed top spot in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 54.15.
  • Luke McNamara picked up a win in the 500 freestyle, stopping the clock at 4:56.18.
NOTES
  • Griffis' time in the 100 free was the fastest of any Middlebury swimmer so far this season.
  • Middlebury earned its ninth-straight victory over the Pride.
