Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Hockey Comes Up Just Short Against Bowdoin, 4-3

The Middlebury men's hockey team put together a late comeback attempt, but Bowdoin thwarted the charge to earn a 4-3 victory in Kenyon Arena.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Polar Bears looked to get on the scoreboard just 3:04 into the first period when Ean Small skated in behind the Panther defense. Small raced toward Panther goalie Jake Horoho, but the Middlebury netminder denied the bid with his right pad.
  • The Panthers produced a quality scoring opportunity a little four minutes later, but the pads of Bowdoin goalie Alex Kozic saved Chris Garbe's wrister from the left dot.
  • In the back-and-forth game, the Polar Bears took a 1-0 lead on a goal with 7:01 left on the clock. Andy Stoneman fed a cross-ice pass to the stick of Gabe Shipper, who ripped a one-timer from the left circle into the back of the net.
  • Middlebury knotted the score at 1-1 in the first minute of the second period. Jin Lee skated behind the Polar Bear goal, scoring on a wraparound shot 35 seconds into the stanza.
  • Bowdoin took a 2-1 edge at the 7:48 mark with a power-play goal. Aidan Lyons collected a loose puck behind the Panther net, sending a pass to the stick of Bobby Pearl for the one-timer on the doorstep.
  • Middlebury fought back and tied the contest (2-2) just 1:54 later with a power-play goal, as Andrej Hromic's left-handed bid from the left slot tucked under the crossbar.
  • Bowdoin regained a one-goal advantage 14:43 into the middle period. Patrick Callahan won a faceoff on the left dot between his legs, as Shipper stepped into a wrist shot for his second goal of the contest and a 3-2 edge heading to the third period.
  • The score remained that way until 12:05 had elapsed in the final stanza, as Shipper stuffed home a loose puck on the left side to complete his hat trick and give Bowdoin a 4-2 advantage.
  • The Panthers looked to mount a late comeback attempt, pulling Horoho in favor of the extra skater with a minute left in regulation. With 22 seconds remaining, Antoine Belisle gathered the puck behind the Bowdoin net, sending a pass to Garbe who blasted a slap shot from the left dot that tucked inside the left side of the goal, cutting the deficit to one (4-3).
  • Middlebury fired a pair of shots in the final seconds, but one was blocked and the last one went just wide as the Polar Bears hung on for the 4-3 triumph.
