Gironda & Kessler Place In The Top 10 To Lead Panthers to Third Place At NCAA Regionals

The 18th-ranked Middlebury men's cross country team took home third place at the NCAA MidEast Regionals, finishing with 99 points. Williams won the event with 40 points, earning the region's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Championship field, while RPI finished second with 57 points. The Panthers will wait to find out if they've received one of 22 at-large bids when the NCAA field is announced on Sunday.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Alec Gironda was the first Panther to cross the finish line, stopping the clock in 25:47.5 to place eighth overall.
  • Zander Kessler finished just behind his teammate with a time of 25:53.9. He moved up one spot over the final kilometer to break into the top 10 with a ninth-place finish.
  • The third Panther was Ziggy Goddard, finishing in 21st, with a clocking of 26:11.0. Goddard made a big move between miles two and three, climbing 10 spots.
  • Rounding out the scorers for Middlebury was Luke Lorenz (26:40.6) and Shef West (26:42.3), who crossed the line in 30th and 31st, respectively.
