Football Eases Past Williams 30-7 On Fall Family Weekend

The Middlebury football team scored in each quarter, easing past Williams 30-7 during Fall Family Weekend. With the win, the Panthers improved to 4-0 and will take on the only other undefeated NESCAC squad, Trinity, at home next weekend.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury's Cole Kennon made his first start at quarterback this season count, connecting with Greg Livingston for a 40-yard touchdown pass on the opening drive of the game. Andrew Haas converted the extra point afterward for the early 7-0 edge.
  • Williams slowly made its way down the field, and eventually scored on a play spanning the end of the first and start of the second stanza. Joel Nicholas had a six-yard rushing touchdown, before the PAT by Ivan Shuran knotted the game 7-7.
  • The Panthers took the lead for good on a four-minute drive in the middle of the second quarter. Kennon hooked up with Patrick Jamin for a 10-yard scoring strike, before the extra point by Haas made it 14-7.
  • Haas converted a 37-yard field goal on Middlebury's first drive of the third stanza, pushing the advantage to 17-7.
  • Williams had a drive spanning nearly the final six minutes of the quarter, but a strong Panther defense turned the Ephs over on downs at the Middlebury 29-yard line.
  • The Panthers took over with just 33 seconds to go in the third, and carried their momentum into the fourth quarter. Kennon found Donovan Wood for a 25-yard touchdown pass and Haas' extra point was good for the 24-7 lead.
  • On its next drive of the game, Middlebury's Kennon found Livingston for a nine-yard scoring strike. The touchdown was nullified due to a flag on the play, but the duo repeated the play, this time for a 19-yard completion to make it 30-7.
  • The Ephs marched down the field on their next possession, making their way into the red zone. Finn Muldoon intercepted a pass by Jack Wallace, holding Williams to just one touchdown during the 30-7 win.
