Gironda’s PR Leads #29 Middlebury To Third-Place Finish

The 29th-ranked Middlebury men's cross country team finished third at the Mike Woods Invitational, in a field that had a host of strong opponents. Alec Gironda and Zander Kessler both finished in the top 10 in a field of 373 runners.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Case Western Reserve took home first place (62 points), SUNY Geneseo claimed second (68 points) and Middlebury rounded out the top three with 95 points.
  • Gironda was the first Panther to cross the line, finishing in fifth place with a time of 24:56.3, setting a personal record by 35 seconds.
  • Kessler placed eighth, stopping the clock in 25:09.8.
  • Ziggy Goddard finished 12th and recorded a time of 25:22.8, 
  • Max Cluss was just behind him, finishing 15th with a time 25:27.6.
  • Owen Johnson was the final scorer for the Panthers, crossing the line with a time of 26:22.1 in his 8K debut.
NOTES
  • Both Gironda and Goddard's previous 8K PRs came at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Gironda broke his previous record (25:29.6) by 35 seconds, while Goddard claimed a PR by three seconds (25:25.4).
