Box Score The Middlebury men's hockey team (2-10-2, 1-9-1) fell 3-2 in overtime to Connecticut College (4-8-1, 3-6-0) on Sunday evening. The Panthers return to action on Friday night when they host Trinity at 7:00 p.m.
Middlebury got out to a quick start, scoring just 2:37 into the opening stanza.
Tyler Capello won the faceoff and sent the puck back to
EMack Bentley on the top of the left circle, before Bentley found the upper right corner of the goal to make it 1-0. The Camels knotted the game 1-1 with 17:41 expired during a five-on-three. Connecticut College's Devin Newhook saw his initial bid thwarted by Panther netminder
Adam Wisco, but Lukas Uhler slipped the loose puck into the net after a scramble in front.
The Camels took a 2-1 edge just 25 seconds into the middle frame when Anthony Quatieri wristed a shot from just inside the blue line. Middlebury had a great chance to tally the equalizer at the 13:32 mark.
Andrej Hromic sent a pass from behind the net to
Antoine Belisle in the slot, but Belisle's one-timer went just wide right.
The Panthers persisted, tying the game 3:54 into the third period. An initial shot by
Cole Joslin was denied by Camel goaltender Michael McHale, but
Jin Lee one-timed the puck into the goal to make it 2-2. Middlebury had a great chance to take the lead with 1:51 remaining in the stanza.
Chris Garbe intercepted a pass and skated on a breakaway towards the goal, but his short-handed attempt from point blank was denied by McHale, sending the contest into overtime.
Garbe had another chance for the game-winner during the extra stanza, but his bid from the slot hit the left pipe and ricocheted away. The Camels scored with 22 seconds remaining when Paul Capozzi wrapped around the goal and tucked the puck inside the right pipe for the 3-2 final.
Wisco made six saves in goal for Middlebury, while
Jake Horoho had 13 stops. McHale made 27 saves to earn the win in goal for Connecticut College.
