The men's track and field team placed second at the Middlebury Invitational with 170 points on Saturday in Virtue Field House. The University of Vermont claimed the meet with 214 points, while St. Lawrence rounded out the top-three (112). The Panthers head to Massachusetts next Saturday for the Tufts' Cupid Challenge.
Middlebury dominated in the throwing events, earning first, third and fourth places in the weight throw.
Daniel Brey took the top spot with a personal-best toss of 45'7.25",
James Hetherington was next for the Panthers with a mark of 41'8", while
Samuel Maxwell was one spot behind with a throw of 39'8.75".
Zack Sieb claimed the crown in the shot put with a heave of 44'9.75".
Max Cluss shaved almost 10 seconds off of his personal-best time in the mile, crossing the finish line with a winning time of 4:14.69.
Will Behm took the crown in the pole vault, clearing a height of 13'1.5".
The Panther 4x400m relay quartet of

Colin Breen,
Connor Randall and
Johnny LaFortune earned the top spot with a clocking of 3:31.12.
In the long jump,
Caleb Fineske (20'7.75") and
Walker Coleman (20'3.5") finished in second and third place, respectively. Fineske also earned runner-up honors in the triple jump with a leap of 41'11.5".
Breen earned runner-up laurels in the 600m, clocking in at 1:24.35.
Drew Donahue placed second in the 3,000m, clocking in at 8:37.90.
Aaron Tobias and
Marco Motroni finished second and third, respectively in the 60m dash. Tobias crossed the finish line in 7.21, while Motroni was just behind with a time of 7.29. Tobias followed up with another runner-up honor later in the day, clocking in at 22.99 in the 200m.
