The Middlebury men's swimming and diving team had a strong showing at its own Middlebury Invitational this weekend. The two-day event featured four teams competing in timed finals with no team scoring. The meet served as the final tune-up for the Panthers prior to the NESCAC Championships set for February 17-20 in Waterville, Maine.
Middlebury earned its first win of the event in the 200-yard individual medley, as
Riley Griffis swam a personal-best time of 1:56.17.
Bryan Chang placed first in the 50 breaststroke with a clocking of 26.84, while
Aidan McKenrick took top honors in the 50 freestyle in 21.51.
Griffis and McKenrick added to their strong meet by placing second and third, respectively, in the 100 free. Griffis had a time of 46.89 seconds and McKenrick in 47.89.
William Sonne's time of 4:18.43 in the 400 IM put him in the top spot, while teammate
David Rubenstein was right behind in second (4:23.49).
Jack Undercofler continued the team's success, posting a time of 53.57 seconds to win the 100 backstroke, followed by
Terry Luongo in second (55.27). Undercofler also touched the wall second in the 50 back (24.30).
