Michel Macedo (Fortaleza, Brazil) of the Middlebury alpine ski team has been named to the Brazil Olympic team for the 2022 Winter Games. The Olympics begin on February 4 and are being held in Beijing, China. The first set of alpine events starts on February 6.
"I am really happy with the news and exited to have the opportunity to represent Brazil and Middlebury at the world's biggest sporting stage," said Macedo. "It's going to be particularly awesome to have a Middlebury skiing teammate there along with me in Ali and I'm exited to see what we can do!"
"Michel is representing Brazil in his second Olympic games and has emerged as a veteran talent on our alpine team here at Middlebury," said Bartlett. "We are excited to watch him perform on the world stage."
Macedo joined the Brazilian Alpine Ski Team in 2015 and is the country's top medalist in official sporting events with a total of 12 medals. He opened the 2021 campaign in early January, earning a pair of medals in the giant slalom in his first outing. Macedo was the best Brazilian in the Youth Olympic Games in 2016 and participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics. At Middlebury, he qualified for the 2020 NCAA Championships.
