Santi Canella tied the school mark in the triple jump.
The men's indoor track and field team kicked off its 2022 season by hosting the Middlebury Winter Classic on Saturday at Virtue Field House. The Panthers placed third with 89.50 points. The University of Vermont won the meet with 168 points, followed by Plymouth State in second (143 point). Middlebury will continue its run of three straight home meets in January next Saturday when it hosts the Middlebury Winterfell starting at 11:00 a.m. in Virtue Field House.
Santi Canella leapt a distance of 41'11.25" in the triple jump, typing the program record set by Silas Wong in 2011.
Aaron Tobias won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.18, while finishing third in the 200m (23.27).
Daniel Brey and
James Hetherington took the top two spots in the 35-pound weight throw. Brey won the event with a toss of 42'3.25", while Hetherington topped out at 42'2".
Zack Sieb placed second in the shot put, throwing 45'3", trailing the winner by just 4.25 inches.
Logan Cosgrove rounded out the podium in third with a toss of 37'10".
Caleb Fineske placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5'10.75", tying for the top spot, but needing two jumps to do it instead of one.
Jefferson Hill placed third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.06.
