The Panther men's tennis team opened up its fall season by hosting the Middlebury Invitational. Four singles and two doubles brackets were contested, with two Panthers advancing to the semifinals in singles, while the home team boasted two doubles teams in the finals. Middlebury returns to action next weekend at the ITA Regionals hosted by Bowdoin.
In the "A" singles draw,
Stan Morris and
Robby Ward won three matches to advance to the finals of the 16-team bracket, before falling 8-5 in the finals to the bracket's top pair. In the "B" doubles draw,
Neel Epstein and
Zachary Hilty also picked up three wins and moved into the finals, falling 8-2 in the title match to the top-ranked duo.
In singles play,
Noah Laber picked up two wins in the "A" bracket before bowing out in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-2.
Zihao Yuan also made a semifinal appearance, with his effort coming in the "B" singles bracket. After his two victories, he fell by a score of 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 to the top-ranked player in the draw. Â
