Kim Records 200th Win In Victory Over Bowdoin

Middlebury head coach Peter Kim recorded his 200th career victory as the Panthers downed Bowdoin 2-1 Saturday afternoon on Dragone Field. Kim now owns a career mark of 200-66-34 with the highest winning percentage in school history (.723). Middlebury (4-1-0, 1-1-0) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Castleton at 4:30, while Bowdoin (3-2-0, 0-2-0) is at St. Joseph's of Maine on Sunday.

Middlebury took a 1-0 lead just 5:39 into the contest with the first of the season from Eliza Robinson. Eliza Van Voorhis crossed a ball from the right side that Robinson settled, before firing a shot at the right side of the net. The ball hit the post and riccocheted to the near post and into the side of the net.

Bowdoin had an opportunity to tie the game in the 25th minute, but Julia Adelmann's shot from 20 yards out was tipped over the crossbar by Panther keeper Sydney Poppinga. The Polar Bears threatened again in the final minute of the half, but Poppinga thwarted an attempt by Lo Hoglin after a low-hard cross from Jess Klein.

In the second half, Robinson nearly made it a 2-0 game, but her blast from 30 yards out was denied by Bowdoin goalkeeper Alex Arndt.

The Panthers doubled their lead at the 68:11 mark when a corner kick by Robinson deflected in off a Bowdoin player for an own goal.

Bowdoin jumped right back in the game less than a minute later when Lynn Farquhar made it a 2-1 game at the 69:06 mark. Tess Huckaby served a free kick from the rick corner, that Farquhar finished from close range for her third of the year.

The Panther defense stood strong in the final 20 minutes to secure the 2-1 victory.

Bowdoin held a 15-8 shots advantage in the game, while Middlebury held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Poppinga made five saves in goal to earn the win, while Penny Rocchio (1 GA, 2 saves) and Arndt (1 GA, 3 saves) split time for the Polar Bears.
