Zoe Tray won a pair of individual races and was part of a winning relay team.
The Middlebury women's swimming and diving team opened its season with a 158-130 victory at Connecticut College on Saturday. With the triumph, the Panthers beat the Camels for the first time in 10 years. Middlebury is idle until Saturday, December 4th when it hosts Amherst at 1:00 p.m.
The Panthers were propelled by seven first-place finishes. The 200-yard medley relay quartet of
Maddy Reid,
Zoe Tray,
Audrey Hsi and
Louise Hay won the event with a time of 1:50.82. Tray earned a pair of individual victories, winning the 100 (1:08.13) and 200 breaststroke (2:29.33).
Middlebury swept the diving competition with
Olivia Rieur taking top honors off the 1 meter board (206.02 points) and
Kayla Schwartz finishing second (170.48). Schwartz was the champion off the 3 meter board, totaling a score of 184.58, while Rieur was just behind with 183.53.
Mia Tarantola stopped the clock in the 200 butterfly with a winning time of 2:14.95, while
Courtney Gantt placed first in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 25.26. Gantt also finished in second place in the 100 free with a time of 55.70.
Chloe Katz and
Isabella Caddeau each turned in a pair of second-place performances. Katz stopped the clock in the 500 free with a time of 5:18.21 and touched the wall in 2:17.13 in the 200 individual medley. Caddeau finished in 1:00.37 in the 100 backstroke and stopped the clock at 1:01.38 in the 100 fly.
